I am a fan of RTS games (Red Alert, Command and Conquer...) and I recently discovered a really nice open-source project : OpenRA
OpenRA is a game engine for Red Alert 1, Command and Conquer 1 and Dune 2000 (and soon Red Alert 2 and Tiberium Sun).
I have started working on new units but graphics have to be created with a custom .PAL palette file (the ones Westwood Studios used).
If it's possible to extract the .PAL file from these games, it's not possible to use that .PAL file with Photoshop.
In fact there exist many different .PAL files : Westwood ones, JASC ones, Microsoft ones, and others.. (I could say there are maybe 10 different ones).
Photoshop can only load these file types : .PAL, .ACO, .ACT but not all kind of .PAL files, only Microsoft compatible ones.
The problem : palette files Westwood used are not Microsoft compatible.
Why do I tell you all this ?
I have recently found your old Open-Source Palette Editor: http://ra2.gamebanana.com/tools/3696
I just wanted to know if you could update this tool in order to :
- support Microsoft PAL files
- convert other PAL files to Microsoft PAL files
- convert PAL files to ACT (for photoshop)
I noticed that it was coded in Delphi. Unfortunatelly I don't know coding at all, but some of my friends do (but only C#).
If you still have the source code, maybe my friends could try to port it to C# and could add the feature requests I typed above.
PS : it's April the 1st but it's not a joke..
